Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos, and Marco Asensio scored for Real Madrid in a 3-1 victory over Atalanta on Tuesday, ensuring their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

With a 1-0 lead from the first leg, Benzema settled Madrid’s nerves by sweeping home in the first half after Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello made a mistake.
After the break, Madrid were awarded a penalty after Vinicius Junior was clumsily fouled by Rafael Toloi, and Ramos buried the ensuing spot-kick emphatically.

Luis Muriel’s free kick gave Atalanta a late goal, but Asensio ensured there was no drama with a goal on the counterattack.
Atalanta went close early on when Muriel cut the ball back for Robin Gosens, but he could only manage a tame shot straight at Thibaut Courtois.

Midway through the half, Los Blancos found their flow when Vinicius combined with Benzema inside the box, but the Brazilian’s goal-bound effort was stopped. After a poor clearance by Sportiello, Luka Modric fed Benzema, who finished clinically, Zinedine Zidane’s side took the lead. After a magnificent sprint, Vinicius almost added a second goal, shooting wide with only Sportiello to beat.

As Ramos converted from the spot, he gave Atalanta a mountain to climb, with Sportiello unable to hold it out while having a hand to the ball.
With seven minutes left, Atalanta equalized, with Muriel curling a superb free-kick into the top-right corner. Benzema headed against the post, and Courtois twice saved from Duvan Zapata.

Madrid finished the game strongly, and Asensio pounced on a Serie A counterattack a minute later, beating Sportiello at his close post.
