Corona virus in Barcelona
Barcelona announced on Saturday that its new Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic has been infected with the new Corona virus.
The Catalan club wrote in a statement that Pjanic, 30, who was transferred from Juventus at the end of last June,
“tested positive on Saturday after suffering some discomfort.
The player is in good health and isolated at home.”
He continued, “For this reason, the player will not travel to Barcelona for 15 days to join the team.”
Pjanic moved to Barcelona for 60 million euros with 5 million incentives,
in a deal that saw Brazilian midfielder Artur move in the opposite direction for 72 million euros to ten million incentives and bonuses.
Spanish newspapers reported that Pjanic was on vacation in Italy.
This is the third Corona injury in Barcelona, after French defenders Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Claire Todibo.
Pjanic started his professional career with French club Metz in 2007 before moving to Lyon.
He played in France 115 matches, scoring 16 goals, before moving to Rome in the year 2011.
He spent five seasons with the Italian capital club, during which he played 200 matches,
including scoring 30 goals and making 40 assists, before moving to Juventus in 2016.
Barcelona pointed out that his new player showed with his last club “his mature talent and became a pivot in one of the best clubs in the world, and won the Italian League title three times (raising it to four at the end of the season) and the Coppa Italia twice and the Italian Super Cup once.”
He continued, “Pjanic played in every position in midfield, whether it was the offensive midfield with Metz, or a deeper role in Lyon and Rome.
Barcelona is seeking at the local level to regain the LaLiga title from Real Madrid.
