Press reports revealed that the Spanish club Barcelona is close to settling its
first summer deals during the reign of the new coach Ronald Koeman,
who requested the signing of his Dutch compatriot, Jorginho Vinaldum, the Liverpool player.
The Catalan newspaper “Sport”, in its cover issued on Wednesday morning, said that Vinaldum had agreed to move to Barcelona.
The newspaper added that Barcelona is in advanced negotiations with Liverpool regarding the signing of Vinaldom, noting that the club will not pay more than 20 million euros for the player’s services.
Earlier press reports had stated that Barcelona had already contacted
Liverpool in order to include Vinaldom, at the request of Ronald Koeman.
The 29-year-old was constantly participating with Ronald Koeman during his tenure as captain of the Dutch national team,
specifically from September 2018 until he managed his last match in November 2019, before stopping due to the Corona pandemic.
Wijnaldum is one of Barcelona’s main goals to support the midfield position, especially given the end of his contract with Liverpool in 2021, and the Reds may have to allow his departure to avoid leaving the club for free during the next year.
It is reported that Liverpool has come close to joining Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara,
which may open the door to leaving Vinaldom, which Barcelona wants to include to compensate for the departure of the Croatian Ivan Rakitic to Seville.
